    Default Poker literature

I want to start a thread about poker books. Any experiences which are good and which are bad? I would especially be interested to know if anyone has read a good book or articles about omaha Hi and omaha hi/lo, since most of the books on the market are about hold'em

My favourite book so far is Phil Gordons - Little Green Book. The writing style is very educational and I like the way he tells what he is thinking in different situations and how he plays.

    PLO Hi:

Rolf Slotboom - Secrets of Professional Pot-Limit Omaha

Has an absolute must read section on shortstacking. Even if you always play a big stack, you will learn how to stay out of the shortstackers way when it's a -EV situation for you. And how not to create +EV situations for the shortstacks. I play a full stack in my regular PLO games, but I have made significant profit using Rolf's strategy shortstacking big live games.

The rest of the book is also a good read if maybe a bit badly structured. Also be prepared for a lot of self-promotion but that is common among poker authors.

Jeff Hwang - Pot limit Omaha Poker The Big Play Strategy

Kind of a solid fundamentals book. Advocates a playing style that's a solid winner in full ring games with small volatility. The author is not well known but he knows what he's doing. I would probably start with this book if I was new to PLO. There's also some O8 stuff in this book which will get you to a good start in O8, plus a good but short chapter on PLO8. PLO8 material is hard to come by in poker books.

Some older but still good PLO reads are

    Bob Ciaffone - Omaha Poker
Stewart Reuben - How Good is Your Pot-Limit Omaha?

    Split O8:

Omaha 8 split limit is a simple game, especially in full ring. There's really only one way to play winning O8. Therefore I wouldn't waste time with more than one book:

Ray Zee - High-Low-Split Poker, Seven-Card Stud and Omaha Eight-or-better for Advanced Players

All you need to win in limit O8 games is in here. As a bonus you get the 7stud hi/lo section.

Once you're comfortable and a decent winner in limit O8 games, you can start studying PLO8. Read what Hwang wrote for starters and watch some training videos even though there are not many. Then jump into small online games.
